Dear Parents and Guardians,

We want to provide clarification regarding recent changes to transportation for middle and high school students who choose to attend a school outside of their designated attendance area.

Students still have the option to attend NCHS, SMS, RHS, or RMS, regardless of their residence area. This option has not changed. The change involves transportation for students who choose to attend a school outside their attendance area.

Due to identified route inefficiencies, designated pickup and drop-off locations have been established for these students:

  • Gauley River Elementary (GRE)

  • Panther Creek Elementary (PCE)

What does this mean for families?

If your child attends a middle or high school outside of their designated attendance area:

  • In the morning: Families will be responsible for transporting their child to the designated pickup location at either GRE or PCE. From there, the student will board a bus to Richwood or Summersville.

  • In the afternoon: Students will be transported back to the designated GRE or PCE drop-off location, where families will be responsible for picking them up.

This change only affects secondary students who choose to attend NCHS, SMS, RHS, or RMS outside of their designated attendance area.

Students attending the school within their designated attendance area will continue to receive transportation according to their regular bus routes.

We understand that transportation changes can require adjustments for families, and we appreciate your cooperation as we work to provide safe and efficient transportation for our students.

Thank you,

Nicholas County Schools
