On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, Nicholas County Schools' Wellness Committee hosted the Annual 5th Grade Fun Run at Battle Run on Summersville Lake. The Fun Run is held for 5th grade students to encourage outdoor activity, promote physical fitness, & to highlight the importance of making healthy choices. The event is strictly for fun & educational purposes - no ribbons or awards are given.
The main event is a 1 ½ mile run/hike along the Summersville Lake at the Battle Run area. Several local and state organizations set up stations to educate students on everything from water safety, fire safety, healthy eating choices, fun activities to encourage them to keep moving, and several other activities to keep them engaged while at the event. We would like to give a special thanks to the participating organizations this year which included: Active Southern WV, Camden Family Health, Kessler Cross Lanes Fire Department, New River Health, Nicholas County Health Department, Summersville Police Department, WVU Extension Service, and US Army Corps. We also would like to give a special thank you to Crest Supply who donated water for the event again this year.
