We just got off a weather call concerning the incoming inclement weather. We were told that we MAY get some light snow around 3 a.m. Therefore, it appears right now that we could not make a call about delays or cancellations until early tomorrow morning. We understand that this can be an imposition to many people when trying to get childcare, but it would be presumptuous to make a call when the weather prediction is so uncertain.
If the weather forecast changes later this evening, we may change course but right now it appears a call will not come until tomorrow morning if at all. Thursday's weather is similar.
Just trying to keep you informed.
I just got another email for a special weather call at 8 p.m. tonight so it is possible we may have more updated information tonight.
Stay tuned!

We will be on a three-hour delay tomorrow, Friday, February 7 with our snow route trial run. We are concerned about possible high water and poor visibility early in the morning. The purpose of snow routes is to have school when the side roads are bad. Usually, we think of that as being snow or ice but now we are looking at it with high water and debris. I see this as the perfect time to see how these routes work. Again, students that cannot get to the bus on snow route days are given excused absences if they bring in a note from the parent.
Due to having no water, there will be no school Friday February 7, 2025, for Richwood High, Richwood Middle, Gauley River Elementary, and Nicholas County Career and Technical Center. Staff is not to report to those schools.
Good evening, I had the pleasure to meet with the staffs of Cherry River Elementary, Panther Creek Elementary, Richwood Middle School, and Richwood High School today to provide them an update concerning the construction project at Richwood. I was accompanied by board members and Assistant Superintendent Kelli Whytsell.
The purpose of this meeting was to inform them that construction of the new Richwood School is moving along rapidly and that the middle school and high school area would be completed by this summer, thus allowing the middle school students and high school students to begin the 2025-2026 school year in the new school!
The elementary wing may or may not be completed by the time school starts in August and therefore the Cherry River students would remain at Panther Creek until their section is completed. The pods are in bad shape and getting worse and worse. It IS an inconvenience for the Cherry River students and staff to have to stay at Panther Creek a little longer than we planned but compared to what the students and staff have had to tolerate for the past 8 years in the pods there is no comparison.
We know that there are a lot of questions, and we will try and answer them as quickly as we can. But we felt this information needed shared right away so all involved would be aware of our plans.
It IS possible that the elementary wing may be completed as well, but this is just a possibility. at this point. Therefore, assuming that there are no unexpected delays, our plans are to order and move the middle school and high school materials to the new school this summer and be ready for instruction at the beginning of school. Those students and employees have waited long enough. It is time!
We have consistently said that we wanted to get the kids out of the pods as soon as we could. That is what we plan to do.
